On Environmental Dictionary and Environmental Studies : A Consideration on Aspects of Concealment and Reproduction in Knowledge

Currently, there are a lot of dictionaries which we can call "environmental dictionary". But very few attempts have been made at studies or investigations about environmental dictionary even in lexicography, which have mainly been focused on modern dictionaries such as OED, Webster, Koujien, and so on. Given these factors, this paper has two purposes; to position studies about environmental dictionary in the tide of lexicography, and to investigate aspects of environmental dictionary by using basic lexicographical (meta-lexicographical) approach and numeric character data. In basic lexicography, dictionary is assumed to be the description/norm of language. If so, environmental dictionary is assumed to be the description/norm of environmental studies. For this reason, environmental dictionary is good example to illustrate wide-spread and cross-disciplinary, or sometimes invisible environmental studies too. But, to put it on the other way round, environmental dictionary might be a device potentially which even conceal or reproduce the particular disciplines of environmental studies.
