From the early part of the Meizi Era to the pressent time, the process of development of Enoura-mura's fishery are divided into three stages by the kind of fishery, and the fishing technique of a certain stage are connected with that of previous stage. The 1st stage, about the year 1877 to 1902, is characterized by the coastal gill net fishery, operated by the non-powered vessel. In the 2nd, from 1903 to 1924, most of the fishermen are engaged in the Sardine and Mackerel purse seine fishery, operated by the non-powered vessels. In the 3rd, from 1925 to the present, the many fishermen are employed in the Sardine and Mackerel purse seine fishery which are operated by other prefecture's powered vessels.
