On the Organization of Knowledge and “ Invention of Tradition”in “ Nagasaki-studies” - An External Analysis Based on Objective Indexes -

In this paper, we would like to investigate the organization process of an area study called“Nagasakistudies”.“ Nagasaki-studies”is established by Jujiro Koga, and nowadays, characterized as“comprehensive”and “universal”area study dealing in wide variety to study. However, there has been no attempt to examine what and how much is selected as subjects of“Nagasaki-studies”concretely and empirically. So, we classified books of“Nagasaki-studies”on the basis of theme, making a database about it. Then, we calculated both specialization index and particularization index, and considered a transition of theme in“Nagasaki-studies”by reference to them. In consequence, we revealed that both the activity of community of intellectual and the local government’s public work projects（especially, about education and tourism）contributed to the organization process of“Nagasakistudies”. Above all, we also interpreted latter function as a base for“invention of tradition” .
