The Investigation of the Conchocelis in Ariake Sea I The Distribution of Substratum and the Perforating Growth of Carpospores of Porphyra off Shimabara

摘要

To clarify the distribution of the substratum on which the Conchocelis is able to grow, the author collected the shells quan ti a ively off Shimabara. On the other hand, he observed the attaching and the growth of carpospores on the oyster shell which was previously set in the sea. Plenty of shells were found on the bottom where the water is 7～13 m in depth, 600～1000 m off shore. The carpospore is spread out broadly and, the Conchocejisgrows even at the depth of 10 m or more.
