In this paper, we analyzed the free in-plane vibration of variable cross sectional arches with arbitrary shapes, in cluding the effects of rotatory inertia, extensionality of arch axis, transverse-shear deformation and dead load, by using the discrete general solution method and obtained natural frequencies and normal modes of various rib arches. As the result of numerical analysis, the effects of the rise-span ratio, the boundary conditions and the plane shapes of arch axis to the natural frequencies were clarified.
