Typhoon 8712 struck Nagasaki district on August 30-31, 1987. Maximum instantaneous wind speeds were 55.6m/s at Fukue, 53.2m/s at Hirado and 52.1m/s at Izuhara. These set up new records respectively. A total amount of damages were 87.8 billion yen in Nagasaki district. It also renewed past record. About 1/3 in the total amound of damages was of the facilties of harbours and fishing ports. In Nagasaki district, there are 110 harbours and 286 fishing ports. The 46 harbours and 111 fishing ports were damaged by this typhoon. Moreover about 90% of the damage amount on facilities was of breakwaters. In this paper, factors of breaks of breakwaters by this typhoon will be investigated and countermesures will be proposed.
