Bumper landing of juveniles of black pomfret Parastromateus nigerudat Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

About 39.5 t of juvenile black pomfret,udParastromateus niger (Bloch, 1795), was landedud(Fig. 1 and 2), by 46 ringseine units operated atud20 m depth, at Mangamaripeta and Lawsons Bayudlanding centers, which are about 15 km fromudVisakhapatnam, during 23rd - 26th May, 2012. Blackudpomfret is locally called as nalla chanduva in AndhraudPradesh. Fishery for the black pomfret starts fromudpost-monsoon months and dominates theudpomfret fishery with maximum landings duringudNovember-February.
