Mudcrab culture and hatchery

The capture, culture and trade of mudcrabudare of increasing importance in the coastal areasudof the Indo-Pacific region. Mudcrab is consideredudas a very expensive sea-food delicacy all-over theudworld. Widespread interest exists in crab fatteningudin the countries bordering Bay of Bengal. It isudfeared that the intensive and indiscriminate fishingudof this marine crab and the absence of anyudmanagement measures may cause a decline in theudpopulation. Its reproductive capacity is high. It isudpossible to culture them in specially designedudcoastal ponds, pens and cages. Experimentsudconducted in certain parts of brackishwaterudregions in India have shown high prospects ofudcommercial culture.
