The black-lipped pearl oyster, Pinctada margaritifera,udis sporadically distributed in theudIndo-Pacific region, where they have been traditionallyudused for food, ornaments, jewelry, tools,udand more recently for the production of blackudpearls (Lane et al. 2003). During the past twouddecades, black pearl farming programs haveudbeen initiated by several nations and are nowudat various levels of production
