Molluscan shellfish resources of India - An overview

Several groups of molluscan ahellfish such as cephalopods comprising squids and cuttlefishes;udbivalves like pearl oysters, edible oysters, mussels, clams and windowpone oyster; and gastropodsudrepresented by diank, top shell, turbo shell and a variety of ornamental species contribute to the marineudfisheries of the country. This paper gives a synoptic picture of the available information about theseudresources, their distribution, exploitation, produdion and stock assessment. Suggestions for developingudthese resources are also given.
