Artificial Reefs and its Importance inudMarine Fisheries Management

Nowadays the need for artificial reefsudis growing in India, since the fisheryudresources of the inshore areas are beingudintensively exploited. There is audconsiderable increase in the fishing effort,udespecially by mechanised vessels alludalong the Indian coast. Heavyudcompetition among different kinds ofudfishing vessels has led to reducedudincomes and moreover, in a multi speciesudfishery, management measures likeudseasonal fishing ban adopted forudconservation will have a limited effect. Inudthis context, artificial reefs as a deviceudfor increasing the fish biomass getsudimportance.
