Record landings of cephalopods by trawlers at Veravaludduring first quarter of 2009

Cephalopods represent one of the mostudimportant exploited marine fishery resources atudVeraval. The cephalopod landings in Gujaratudincreased by more than two folds from 0.234 lakh tudin 2002 to 0.49 lakh t in 2006 (Mohanraj et al., 2009),udwith a concomitant increase in catch rate from 5.05udkg h-1 in 2003 to 14.74 kg h-1 in 2006. The cephalopodudresource was constituted mainly by Loligo duvauceli,udSepia pharaonis and S. aculeata
