First record of pompano dolphinfish, Coryphaena equiselis (Linnaeus,ud1758) off Chennai coast in Bay of Bengal

On 5.9.2009, a catch comprising 15 specimensudof pompano dolphinfish, Coryphaena equiselisud(Linnaeus, 1758) was landed at Chennai FisheriesudHarbour by mechanised gillnet. The mechanisedudgillnets operated usually at a depth between 30 andud50 m at a distance of 30-40 km north of Chennaiudtowards Andhra Pradesh. Since, trawlnets andudmechanised gillnets are the main fishing gearsudoperated off Chennai coast, fishes belonging to theudfamily Coryphaenidae formed part of regularudlandings by these two gears. Normally commonuddolphinfish, Coryphaena hippurus formed regularudfishery along this coast.
