Seasonal variations in salinity, dissolvedudoxygen and nutrient salts in the inshoreudwaters of the Gulf of Mannar and PalkudBay near Mandapam (S. India)

A preliminary account of the chemical conditions of the inshore watersudof the Bay of Bengal off Madras City has been given in an eariier paper byudthe author (1951). More detailed investigations in the same area have beenudreported by Ramamurthy (1953). An extension of similar studies to otherudtypical centres has been considered desirable in order that a more comprehensiveudpicture of the seasonal changes in the chemical conditions of coastaludwaters could be obtained. The present paper is an attempt to summariseudthe results of investigations carried out at inshore stations in the Gulf ofudMannar and Palk Bay in the vicinity of Mandapam between the years 1950udto 1953.
