Some observations on the biology of Liza macrolepis (Smith)udand Mugil cephalus Linnaeus (Mugilidae) with notes on theudfishery of grey mullets near Mandapam

Chidambaram and Kuriyan, (1952) gave a brief account of the grey mullets {Mugiludspp.) of Krusadai Island in the Gulf of Mannar. The present study on the biology of Lizaudmacrolepis (Smith) and Mugil cephalus Linnaeus from the Palk Bay was taken up since no informationudon these fishes is available. The food habits of Liza macrolepis and Mugil cephalus andudthe shedding of gill raker processes in grey mullets have been dealt with elsewhere. (Lutherud1962 & 1964).
