Monsoon Fisheries of the West Coast of India Prospects, Problems and Management

There have been significant developmentsudin the exploitation of the marineudfishery resources of India since early 1970s.udThese, on the west coast of India, includeudintroduction of purse seine fishing, extensionudof fishing during monsoon months,udmultiple days fishing by the mechanisedudvessels, motorisation of country crafts andudintroduction of ring seines and similarudother efficient gears. While these inputsudhave contributed to enhance the marine fishudproduction, they have also brought forth audnumber of resource-related and socioeconomicudproblems necessitating seriousudmanagement considerations.
