Co-infection of Yellowtip Halfbeak Fish (Hemiramphusudmarginatus) with Isopod and Copepod Parasites from theudCoromandal Coast, India

Parasitic fish diseases constitute one of the mostudimportant problems in fisheries sector. Among fishudparasites, cymothoids are obligatory parasites, infestingudmostly commercially important fishes. Theyudare protandric hermaphrodites and blood suckers,udliving on the skin, gill filaments, or in the mouthudof the fishes. These parasites retard growth andudcause emaciation followed by death. Pathologicaludconditions resulting from parasitic diseases assumeudhigh magnitude of epidemics under crowded andudother unnatural conditions among fish.Isopod parasiteudof the family Cymothoidae under orderudBeloniformes have been reported from about 350udfish species and over 80% of these occurrence areudfrom tropical and subtropical seas, majority beingudfrom the Indo-Malaysian archipelago (Lester, 1995).
