On the creations of critical points in scale space with applications to medical image analysis

In order to investigate the deep structure of Gaussianudscale space images, one needs to understand the behaviourudof spatial critical points under the influence of blurring. Weudshow how the mathematical framework of catastrophe theoryudcan be used to describe the various different types of annihilationsudand creations of pairs of spatial critical pointsudand how this knowledge can be exploited in finding andudtracing these points. We clarify the theory with an artifi-udcial image and a simulated MR image.
