What impact do businesses have on the efforts of parents with young children who combineudwork and family, and what factors within the business play a role in this? This wasudthe principal question in this comparative case study of two retailers, a large supermarketudchain and a small group of booksellers. I employed a theoretical framework in which Iudcombined various theories about power and gender (Komter, 1990; Morée, 1992, a.o).udThe employees (2x250) and employers were questioned in postal questionaires about theudfamily policy and the family culture in their company, 50 employees (26 male, 24 female)udwith young children where interviewed about there problemes with combiningudwork and care and their stategies to cope with these problems.
