After buckling, the behavior of plates is quite different from that of compressed columns. Namely, the critical load for a column can be considered as theultimate load, but a thin buckled plate can carry a much larger load than thecritical load at which buckling begins. Therefore, it is of importance to investigate the postbuckling behavior ofplates. This paper deals theoretically with the postbuckling behavior of simply snpported isosceles right triangular plate in the case of uniform compression or shearby using the Galerkin's method.Especially,a polynomial of coordinate variables x and y is used as an ew typeof stress function in this paper. The relations between deflection, effective rigidity and load after bucklingare c1arified.
