Syntheses and Polymerization of U nsaturated Dibasic Acid Derivatives (IV) -Preparation of Some Maleimides and their Related Compounds-

Reaction of maleic anhydride with monoethanol amine，monopropanolamine，isopropanolamine.and triethanolamine yielded N-β-oxyethylmaleamic acid. N-γ-oxypropylmaleamicacid.N-β-oxyisopropylmaleamic acid, and mono-N-bis-(β-oxyethyl)ethylmaleate.respectively. Dehydration of above maleamic acids with acetic anhydride and sodiumacetate，followed by esterification，gave N-acetoxyethylmaleimide，N-acetoxypropylmaleimide, and N-acetoxyisopropylisomaleimide，respectively. Dehydration and cyc1izationof N-β-oxyethylmaleamic acid with a small amount of sulfuric acid gave N-β-oxyethylmaleimide. Simi1ar dehydration and esterification of N. O-dimaleoylamino ethanol gaveN-(methylmaleoyl)ethylmaleimide. All of above products are new compounds. Maleimidederivative was synthesized as a monomer in order to obtain its polymer.
