Update of National and State Programs Presently Underway to Curb Point and Nonpoint Sources of Water Pollution from Animal Production Facilities

P.L. 92--500, The Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972, has provided two mechanisms for the control of water pollution from animal production facilities. Point source controls require that confined animal production facilities apply for a NPDES permit in order to operate. Nonpoint source controls, as established by State and area-wide water quality management programs, are to be developed around the concept of \u22Best Management Practices.\u22
