This study examines factors associated with the frequency with which users of location-based social networks (LBSNs) u22check-inu22 with their u22friends.u22 In addition to a variety of control factors (i.e., sex homophily, race homophily, geographic proximity, length of friendship, and u22friendshipu22 type, including non-romantic friend, romantic partner, and family), the central factors of interest were usersu27 background and attitude homophily with, and relational closeness to, their u22friends.u22 Results demonstrate that relational closeness and u22friendshipu22 type (i.e., romantic partner) were significantly, positively associated with u22check-inu22 frequency.
