European integration has led to considerable changes within the political systems of the member states. This phenomenon is known as “Europeanisation” and has been subject to intensive research. The following study of the Green parliamentary group (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) in the German Bundestag exemplifies the Europeanisation of a category of actors that has so far remained unstudied in spite of its relevance for the Europeanisation of national parliaments in general. An institutionalist approach is developed to explore four dimensions of the parliamentary group’s Europeanisation: the formation of specialist expertise, the establishment of information channels, the internal coordination of European policy as well as attempts to assert political influence directly on EU level. The empirical analysis is based upon oral and written interviews of 13 members and employees of the Green parlia-mentary group and the German delegation in the European Green parliamentary group. The benefit of the study is of empirical as well as theoretical nature: the empirical analysis contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the Europeanisation of the Bundestag. Furthermore, the development and testing of a specific approach for the analysis of parliamentary groups increases the theoretical scope of Europeanisation studies.
