摘要

This report commisioned by the Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) and written with the support of the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) surveys research and development trends in the area of brain-computer interface (Brain-Computer Interfaces, BCI) technology. The survey was done by taking expert interviews and through conducting a literature review in the period from September until December 2015. Brain-computer interface is a generic name for the exchange of information by a direct connection between the computer and the human brain. Presently the main research directions are: 1) interpreting brain signals with the aim to let the user control external devices by thought only, 2) interpret brain signals to enhance a user's cognitive capabilities. In this report comparisons are made between research efforts in the USA and other developed countries and those in South Korea. Some recommendations are offered.
