In this work the performance of different membrane reactor concepts, both fluidized bed andudpacked bed membrane reactors, have been compared for the reforming of methane for the production ofudultra-pure hydrogen. Using detailed theoretical models, the required membrane area to reach a givenudconversion and the prevailing temperature profiles have been compared. The extent of mass and heatudtransfer limitations in the different reactors have been evaluated, and strategies to decrease (or avoid) theseudlimitations have been proposed.
