Focus groups for informing AWPA’s Engineering Workforce Study 2014

To support the development of the Engineering workforce study, the Australian Workplace and Productivity Agency (AWPA) commissioned the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to conduct focus group consultations. The aim of the consultation was to investigate the participation of women and mature-aged workers in engineering occupations, and to examine ways to enhance the skills pipeline from schools into tertiary and vocational education and training (VET) and ultimately into engineering jobs.The report provides first-hand information about the experiences and attitudes of specific groups of people in relation to the engineering labour market. It also explores the views of the next generation of engineers, gathering information from school students about their perceptions of the engineering workforce.
