摘要

The temperature of working grains on the grinding wheel just after cutting is measured using an infrared radiation pyrometer, in which an optical fiber accepts the infrared flux radiated from the object and transmits it to an infrared detector In As cell. The working condition of each cutting grain varies after every revolution of the wheel due to the wear or the crushing of it, the surface flow of the workpiece owing to the ploughing, or the vibration of the grinding system. The number of cutting grains is greatly influenced by the change of grinding conditions. The mean temperature of cutting grains is hardly influenced by the wheel depth of the cut or the workpiece speed, but it decreases with an increase in the wheel speed. The maximum temperature of cutting grains measured even under the severe grinding conditions is approximately equal to the melting point of the work material of steel.
