This study proposes an element size selection method for 3D finite element elastic waves propagationanalysis, under the condition time increment has been already selected. The method was named asImpact-Meshing method, according to the key idea to select an appropriate mesh by monitoring strain energydue to impact loading (static analysis), instead of the actual excitation (time series analysis). Because ourmethod does not require time series analysis for mesh size selection, the total CPU time was reduced to beabout 1/6 compared from that by the conventional method, for a case of 100 steps time series.
