The present paper deals with the vibration problem of a right-angled isosceles triangular plate after the methods adopted by E. Trefftz and G. l. Taylor when they obtained the buckling load of a clamped rectangular plate. However,in order to solve such a problem as the present item, a special consideration Is generally necessary to satisfy the boundary conditions at the hypotenuse edge of a triangle, and the author has contrived the solution for the present problem by combining the solution for a square plate. While their methods are essentially identical in their principles, as E. Trefftz suggested, they even lead to the very same characteristic equation for calculating the natural frequencies when treated and calculated as in this paper. In the present paper, the solutions are first given by both methods in the case where all three edges are clamped; and further, as an application, the solutions are presented of the cases in which one or two edges are clamped and the others simply supported. The calculated lowest frequencies are given in the table, together with the results computed by the Rayleigh method.
