摘要

Swarm intelligence as an autonomous distributed system has been attracted much attention ofresearchers in various fields. A swarm robot is one of the research fields of the swarm intelligence.However, to design swarm robot is difficult because of too much degree of freedom. The socialinsects, such as ants, are good examples of sophisticated autonomous distributed system in nature.A cooperative behavior of ant colony gives us a hint in designing a swarm robot. We design anant-type small robot as a prototype general purpose swarm robot. The behavior of ants is toocomplicated one to simulate by a single micro CPU. We try to solve this hard problem by using themulti-CPU system instead of the use of high-performance CPU. The some functions of the ant-typesmall robot are modularized by adopting sub-CPU system. In this study, we focus on modularizationof the contact communication system.
