We have studied on the diffusion of three disperse dyes into Mylar film from the finitedyebath with the carrier (0. P. P.) by the so called Cilindrically Rolled Film Method. The diffusion coefficients and the activation energies of diffusion of O. P. P. and dyeswere measured and following results were obtained.(1) The diffusion coefficient of dye into Mylar film was shown to increase withincreasing concentration of O. P. P. .The adsorption of carrier by Mylar film was increasedwith the amount of carrier in the dyebath. It may be postulated that the carrier molecule push into the interstices of the polyesterfibre and reduces the intermolecular cross-linking force,a nd will facilitate diffusion of dyesinto the fibre(2) In the high temperature dyeing, the addition of O. P. P. is fairly effective, butis inferior to the effect of carrier used at lawer temperatures. If the logarithms of the diffusion coefficents at different temperatures are plotted againstthe reciprocals of the absolute temperatures, the points do not lie on a straight line, andthe activation energy of diffusion is decreased with increasing temperature. This eHect may be attributed to the decrease in the adsorption of O. P. P. with increasmgtemperature.
