Permfrost-related reseach data - their accesibility, visualization, and publication using GIS and WebGIS technology

Permafrost regions are highly sensitive to climateudchanges. To monitor key variables and to identifyudenvironmentally relevant-processes is of topmost importanceudin these environments. Beside data analysisudand map creation capabilities, Geographical InformationudSystems (GIS) also comprise functionalities forudmobile data acquisition in the field, data transfer, dataudmonitoring, data description, as well as data sharingudand publication of data as WebGIS Services (WebudMap/Feature Services (WMS, WFS)). Due to theirudexcellent usability GIS technology and services areudvery common in many scientific disciplines all over theudworld, and since most data formats are standardizeduddata re-use and data interchangeability are guaranteed.udWe visualize field-derived and remote sensing derived research data, collected within Russian andudGerman cooperation projects in the Lena River Delta,udLaptev Sea Region (Siberia) on a Web GIS Platform.udWe visualize the locations of long-term discharge measurementsudand of soil sampling for organic Carbon andudNutrients. Geormorphological feature classes derivedudfrom satellite data and publicly available environmentaluddata layers (e.g. vegetation, soils, and digitaludelevation models) display the broader regional andudthematic context.
