Progressivism and the Executive Branch: Woodrow Wilsonu27s Expansion of Presidential Power

This paper examines how and to what degree Woodrow Wilson expanded the power of the president. After the Civil War, immigration, urbanization, and industrialization changed America. Progressives like Wilson argued that many of these changes were harmful to society. Wilson argued that a president with an expanded role, supplemented by administrative bureaucracies, could solve what Progressives believed were the problems of capitalism and the Founderu27s vision of America.
