Harmonisation of the digital dividend in the European Union and its impact on national DTT planning in the United Kingdom and Spain

Decision 2010/267/EU creates a unique digital dividend in the European Union in the 800 MHz frequency band. European harmonisation of this band will have a different impact on the structure and national planning of DTT in European countries. Specifically, this paper analyses the con- sequences of digital dividend harmonisation in the United Kingdom and Spain. Although both countries have some dependence on the broadcasting network, their television structure and, above all, their strategies and objectives for the implementation of DTT at a national level have given rise to different effects on the legal systems of both countries.
