Study of the Recovery of Indium from Zinc Smelting Residue

A residue originated from a treatment of Zn fuming dust, containing about 0.18% In and 29.8% Pb, was reduced in an electric furnace with reducing reagent and flux. Reduced In was alloyed with metallic Pb, which was then carted to anode and electrolyzed in PbSiF_6 solution. As a results of electrolysis it was found that In was concentrated into anode slime. Before electrolysis, In content in Pb-In alloy was 0.39%, and resulting anode slime had 3.79% In. In this case, the In content in slime and the recovery of In influenced by the amounts of Sb and As involved in the anode. In the case of Sb, the optimum In content in slime is about 15.8% (0.6% In anode), 78% of In contained in anode is found in the slime and the rest of it goes into the solution if In : Sb in anode is 1:3.7. In addition of As, the optimum In content in slime is about 29% (0.6% In anode), 80% of In contained in anode is found in the slime and the rest of it goes into the solution if In : As in anode is 1:0.7.
