Waste to energy : using waste management to create a sustainable urban ecosystem in Muncie, IN

This creative project is split into two sections. First, it explains how cities can use waste to energy technology to solve long term waste disposal and energy creation problems. Moreover, it shows how waste to energy can be used as an economic driver for a city, increase recycling rates, and reduce pollution. A series of real world examples are used along with a case study of the Hennepin County Energy Recovery Center (HERC) in Minneapolis, MN. Secondly, the creative project seeks to examine the viability of a waste to energy plant in Muncie, IN. This section details a site selection process, estimates waste streams and plant capacity, and how a waste to energy plant could help Muncie become more economically and environmentally sustainable.
