A study of the different mechanisms controlling the initialudstages of a fire in a micro-gravity environment is presented.udThree different processes are deemed important for evaluationudof material flammability, piloted ignition, co-current andudcounter-current flame spread. The three processes areudevaluated in terms of thermal theory and the different materialudproperties controlling these combustion processes areudextracted. Experimental results obtained from ground testing, uddrop towers, parabolic flights and sounding rocket experimentsudserve to validate the present approach.
