The chapter discusses the metudhodology used in investigating thude optimum geometric shape high-udrise built form and effectiveness of self-shaded high-rise built form for hot and humid climate. udThe discussion is divided into two phases. Phase udone consists of case study of the generic high-udrise building shape in Kuala Lumpur and adaptaudtion of self-shading straudtegy in high-rise built udform. Three base models are developed based on the above said studieuds. Second phase reviews udthe research methodologies used udby previous researchers. The udjustification of the selected udmethodology of this study is elaborated. Finally, the experimental procedures, limitations and udoverall sequence of the experimental method are diudscussed. There is lack of research on the solar udradiation prevention especially inud equatorial tropics. The develudopment of self-shaded high-rise udbuilt form to achieve maximum reduction of solar isolation on its external exposed surface is udcrucial. Impact of solar radiation on the external udsurfaces of high-rise is important to determining udthe optimum geometric shape and udadaptation of self shading straudtegy into high-rise building uddesign. The shading strategy is moreud efficient if able to apply atud the early stagude of high rise udbuilding design. Since it is in udthe early stages, the most significant deciudsions are easily and udappropriately made regarding sizing, form, pludacement and orientation of the building volume.
