From the viewpoint of effective utilization of natural sedimentary zeolite, clinoptilolite (CZ), produced at Futatsui, Akita Prefecture, characterization of solid acid properties and catalytic reaction tests have been made. The acid properties of CZs exchanged with alkali and alkali earth cation and the samples chemically treated with hydrochloric acid in various concentrations were analyzed by micro-calorimetry of NH_3 adsorption at 473K. The reaction rate on the decomposition of tert-butyl acetate (TBA) over CZs was proportional to the add strength. On the skeletal isomerization reaction of cyclohexene into methylcyclopentenes (MCP) were catalyzed over CZs. 1,4-Dihydropyridines (DHP) were oxidized to corresponding pyridines with H_2O2 aqueous solution over CZ-Mg. The acid ester decomposition of 3,5-di-tert-butoxy-carbonyl pyridine into 3,5-pyridinecarboxylic acid without any solvents proceeded effectively using CZ-Mg at 443K. This paper deals with environmentally benign protocols using CZs based on the Green Sustainable Chemistry (GSC).
