Today, the Department of Education attaches importance to "SchoolFlower Gardening" and "School Vegetable Gardening" for the purpose offorestering pupilsu27 warm hearts. But it seems that the Department makeslight of the cultivation education done in industrial arts.According to the Revised Course Study for Junior High School, eachjunior high school staffs have to choose 3 of 4 regions (Mechanics, MetalProcessing, Cultivation, Information Basic) before 1993.We supposed there wonu27t be so many schools that are going to chooseCultivation Education. Therefore, we sent out a questionnaire concerningcultivation education, to all the teachers in charge of industrial arts inAkita prefecture.The results: 85 % of the answerers sayu27 that cultivation education isimportant, 65% of them say that they intend to choose cultivation education.Then, as the reasons of the difficulties in doing cultivation education,they mention the pressure of school affairs, the insufficiencies of educationalfacilities, the shortage of budget, etc. We found also that the youngerteachers are less interested in cultivation education.We think much of cultivation education in todayu27s junior high schooleducation. Let us pose some problems about the purpose, the contents andthe method of cultivation education in future.
