The purposes of this study are to investigate the relation between eye contact and the frequencyof gesture during speech. An experiment was administered to 6-year-old preschoolers and 5th gradersand university students, and each group was divided into two conditions (eye contact condition andnon-eye contact condition). They were instructed to explain a swing and scissors. The results showed that there was no difference of the total duration of speech production and thefrequency of gesture between both conditions, and that the frequency of gesture changed tracing a Dshapedacross different age groups. The finding of no difference between both conditions indicatedthat the eye contact were not influence on the frequency of gesture. We discussed the interaction "listeneru27simage" and gesture production.
