A survey on awareness of parents about friendship between their children with an intellectual disability and children without a disability

The awareness of parents about friendship between their children with an intellectual disability and children without a disability is an important factor for their children to make friends without a disability. A questionnare survey was used to parents of upper secondary department of special schools for students with an intellectual disability. They thought that their children had fewer opportunities to get involved with children without a disability. Many of them wished that their children could have friends without a disability. But there were differences in the degree of wish among them. This paper concludes with suggestions to the future study about friendship between children with an intellectual disability and children without a disability.
