This paper presents a numerical model for the cyclic/seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns retrofitted with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) confining jackets. Such a column model has previously been unavailable despite the popularity of FRP jacketing as a seismic retrofit method for RC columns. The proposed numerical column model is based on a recent stress-strain model for FRP-confined concrete subjected to cyclic axial compression and a hysteretic moment-rotation model to account for the effect of strain penetration of the longitudinal steel bars in the column footing (i.e.,effect of fixed-end rotations). This column model was implemented into OpenSees (Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation) using its fiber-section force-based nonlinear beam-column element. Predictions of the numerical column model for three FRP-jacketed RC columns subjected to either double-curvature bending or single-curvature bending are shown to be in close agreement with the test results.
