An optimal control strategies for BEMS are developed to optimize the seawater pressure set-point of variable-speed seawater pumps, which include an adaptive approach and a derivative approach. Optimization is achieved by adjusting the pressure set-point according to the estimated derivative of the total power with respect to seawater pressure. The adaptive approach identifies the system parameters essential for the control strategies. Simulation tests show that significant saving in the overall energy consumption of the chilling system can be achieved by properly resetting the pressure set-point only. The optimal control strategy and the evaluation of the control strategy are presented.
