Assuring quality of service (QoS) requirements is criticalwhen assembling a distributed real-time and embedded (DRE)system from a repository of existing software and hardwarecomponents. This paper presents a two-level approach forassuring satisfaction of QoS requirements in the context ofa reduced design space for DRE systems. Techniques fromarti¯cial intelligence and statistics are used to ful¯ll thesecollective objectives at system assembly time. The resultnot only lessens the overhead of validation of QoS require-ments at run-time, but also reduces the development andintegration cost of DRE systems.
