The exact response of thin shells loaded dynamically isextremely complicated and often cannot be expressed in closedanalytical form. Approximate energy dissipation solutiontechniques are developed herein for rigid-perfectly plasticthin shells of arbitrary shape subjected to short durationdynamic loads. The effect of finite deflections is considered,Approximate results are compared with some exact analyticresults for simple problems and with some experimental resultsfor more complicated problems.
