摘要

This research investigated the capabilities of the Yellow RiverSweetwater Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Gwinnett County, GA.to remove phosphorus biologically. Phosphorus levels and removallocations were analyzed in plant operational units (samplingevents) , while in reactor experiments (pilot studies) , waste wassubjected to various conditions to promote biological phosphorusrelease and uptake. Analysis of plant conditions at the time ofexperimentation indicates that one-half of the plant phosphorusremoval is accomplished biologically through incorporation ofphosphorus in microbial cells during growth. It does not appear,however, that enhanced biological phosphorus removal (BPR) ispossible due to wastestream characteristics and/or microbial population. It was noted that the basic anaerobic-aerobic sequence associated with enhanced BPR appears to be occurring with the secondary clarifier sludge blanket and return to compartment A of the nitrification basin.
