The Littoral Combat Ship is intended to be minimally manned and designed to be manned by qualified officers to carry out and operate its multi-faceted mission. This study examines officer manpower and assignment as compared to requirements of ship classes with similar missions that Littoral Combat Ship is intended to replace. A recommendation is made to increase the officer manpower requirement. A new manning metric is presented that accounts for the characteristics of demographic and occupational standards of previous Littoral Combat Ship officers. The research presents a qualitative comparative analysis and provides a model framework for future Littoral Combat Ship manning once a larger inventory of officers have completed tours and more officer data is available.
