In recent years, a large increase in the number of computercontrolled systems and processes has dictated the use of devices withinherently long time delays. The result has been unstable controlsystems. This thesis develops two methods of feedforward compensationwhich cope with this problem. The Pade' method of polynomialapproximation is used to formulate a number of transfer functions whichcan be used in the two feedforward compensation schemes. To choosethe best transfer function for a particular problem, a minimum integralsquare error analysis technique is developed for use in the frequencydomain. Computer simulations are used to verify the effectiveness ofthe two compensation schemes.
